Danny Davis and Elena Hight win the Snowboard Superpipe Finals at the Winter Dew Tour
Ogden, Utah – January 16, 2010 – Elena Hight of South Lake Tahoe, Calif. won the women’s snowboard superpipe final for the first time in her Winter Dew Tour career, and Danny Davis of Highland, Mich., won his second consecutive final in men’s snowboard superpipe. All four of today’s finals were taken in by a record-breaking crowd of approximately 14,000 – the highest one-day event total in the Winter Dew Tour’s two-year history.
Hight, 20, had a run that included a frontside 540, a backside 900 and a cab 720 to earn her a winning score of 92.50. Kaitlyn Farrington of Sun Valley, Idaho and Spain-native Queralt Castellet, both age 20, came in second and third, respectively. Farrington earned a score of 88.25, and Castellet followed behind with an 81.25.
“I haven’t had a win in a couple years, so it feels really good to win tonight,” said Hight. “I’m excited with how I rode and really looking forward to the finals in a couple weeks at the Toyota Championship.”
Twenty one-year-old Davis claimed back-to-back Winter Dew Tour victories after tonight’s final. Davis earned the top score of 96.00, coming close to beating his record-setting score of 96.50, which he earned at the Totino’s Open in Breckenridge, Colo. last month. Davis threw out a huge front 1080 double cork to seal the win.
Joining Davis on the podium was 27-year-old Steve Fisher of Breckenridge, Colo., who held the first-place position throughout the majority of the final until Davis came up for the final run of the night, besting Fisher’s runner-up score of 91.75. Davis’ fellow Frends crew member, Jack Mitrani, joined him on the podium in the third-place position. The 21 year old from Mammoth Lakes, Calif., followed behind Fisher with a score of 84.75.
“I’m definitely excited about the win tonight, and it’s always good to land on the podium with your friends,” said Davis.
