In the future, the FWT roster will be created through the FWQ point system granting FWT positions to athletes with the highest points on the FWT and regional Freeride World Qualifying events such as the Subaru Freeride Series. The 2013 season of FWQ competition will climax at the Freeride Nationals at Snowbird Ski Resort in April, the final opportunity for FWQ athletes to launch to the FWT.

  • Jeremy Jones' Further Tour Roc Jeremy Jones' Further Tour Rocks San Francisco Palace Of Fine Arts

    • From: filmtour
    • Description:

      Palace Of Fine Arts

Following up on last week’s world premiere, the world tour for Jeremy Jones’ Further rolled down the hill for its second stop, at the beautiful Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.  More than 1,200 people came out to meet Jeremy, check out the new gear from O’Neill and Jones Snowboards, get swag from Clif Bar, Lombardi Sports, LiftTickets.com, and of course to get pumped for the season with the free lift ticket offers from Squaw Valley and Mt Bachelor.

As warm as it has been in San Francisco, you could tell that winter was definitely on the mind as the crowd filed in; people were definitely pumped up for the movie they’ve been waiting for two years to see.  As good as the acoustics are at the Palace, there were definitely a lot of moments where the crowd shared their appreciation of the film and the place got LOUD!  Each segment got the crowd more and more excited, and by the time the movie ended, the only look of disappointment was in people’s faces when they left the venue and realized we still have a few more months until the mountains have enough snow to play on.  Winter is coming soon enough!!!

Awesome turnout San Francisco; the Further tour moves on as Jeremy heads up to Seattle and Portland for shows on September 14 and 15, and then on to Orem and Salt Lake City next week.

      Salomon Freeski Signs Greg Hill

Ogden, Utah — Salomon, the leader in technical design and innovation in mountain sports, has signed record-breaking ski mountaineer Greg Hill to its international athlete team. As one of North America’s premier backcountry skiers and mountaineers, Hill’s many accomplishments include climbing and skiing two million vertical feet in one year.

Hill’s strengths in backcountry product knowledge, mountain climbing, alpine skiing and global relationships will be instrumental in further developing Salomon’s product offering and brand focus in the backcountry ski market.

“Greg Hill is the complete alpine package and a great addition to the Salomon team,” says Jesse Malman, Salomon Freeski Sports and Community Marketing Manager. “He brings an obvious and intense background and passion for skiing and touring in the backcountry, which is crucial in our mission to continue developing and bringing to market innovative and ground-breaking products.”

“I can still remember my first pair of Salomon boots in 1993 and knew it was the best pair of boots I’d ever had, so working with Salomon is a dream come true,” says Greg Hill. “Being able to take my experience and passion from the mountains and work with Salomon’s direction and commitment to the backcountry aligns perfectly with my skiing objectives.”

Overall tour champion in 2012, Shannan Yates is currently in second with 135 points, and is certainly looking to win another title on her home turf at Snowbird. Only a point behind with 134 is fellow Snowbird rider Laura Dewey, coming off a second place finish at Crystal.

With only 14 points separating the top four men, the battle for the overall title will be fierce. Leading the pack heading into the final stop is Tim Carlson with 114 points. His many years of big mountain snowboarding experience make him a strong favorite to win. Next behind in the tour standings is Sammy Luebke with 105 points. Tied for third after Crystal and Kirkwood are Brandon Reid and Charlie Hoch with 100 points, each having won a stop of the series.

    • From: TetonGravityResearch
    • Description:

Kirkwood, California- The final day of The North Face Masters of Snowboarding, presented by PrimaLoft, went off in epic style under bluebird, California skies. With 100 mile-per-hour winds and heavy snowfall pushing the competition back one day, competitors were treated to fresh powder and sunny spring conditions on Kirkwood's famously steep venue,The Cirque for the one-run finals.

It was an amazing day here at Kirkwood, said Competition Director Patrick Brennan.Sun, powder and an incredible field of athletes made for a perfect day of competition.

With The Cirque permanently closed to the public, Kirkwood patrollers were hard at work yesterday morning performing avalanche and safety control after two feet of snow fell overnight. Due to high winds, the venue was left with variable snow conditions, which created another challenging aspect to an already difficult competition venue.

A leg-burning 1300 feet long, the venue had every type of snow condition and terrain feature imaginable for the 42 big-mountain snowboarders who made it to the finals after Day 1. Riders were judged for line choice, control, style and fluidity by big mountain legends Tom Burt, Andy Hetzel, Temple Cummins and Julie Zell.

The womens champion for 2012 at Kirkwood was local rider Casey Lucas. This is a dream to win at Kirkwood, said Lucas after her high score of 80.33 was announced. Judges and fans were impressed with Lucas s double cliff drop at the top, showcasing her confident and controlled riding skills honed here at Kirkwood.

In second was Snowbirds Laura Dewey whose strong, athletic style earned her a 78.67. Rounding out the podium at Kirkwood was fellow Snowbird rider Camila Brown with a score of 78.00 thanks to her solid line choice.

Coming back with a vengeance after being sidelined with injury was Wolfcreeks Charlie Hoch, who took the mens field with a winning score of 81.33. Hoch stuck his landing on a big double cliff drop off the top, rode fluid and fast down the fall line, and showed impeccable control on the variable snow. His solid riding earned him the Clif Bar Best Moment of the competition on top of his first place finish.

Scoring an 80.33 to finish second place amid the stacked field was seasoned rider Tim Carlson out of Stevens Pass, WA. Carlson showed zero hesitation as he straight-lined chutes, stuck every landing and carved fast, fluid turns. Earning the final podium spot was Squaw Valleys Christopher Galvin with a score of 78.67.

Now in its fifth season, the three-stop tour is the only open competition for big mountain snowboarders, with an overall prize purse of $50,000.

$20,000 of prize money was awarded to the top finishers, as well the famous Katana Sword to Hoch and Lucas. The North Face Young Gun Award, given to the most impressive rider under the age of 25, went to Jann Eberharter of Bogus Basin.

The North Face Masters of Snowboarding is presented by PrimaLoft and supported by The North Face, Subaru of America, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., Bern, Lib Tech, Gnu, Mountain Sports International, Comcast Sportsnet, Snowboard Magazine, Clif Bar, Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort, Crystal Mountain and Kirkwood Mountain Resort.

TNF MastersWorld's best big mountain snowboarders compete in the second stop of the series

Salt Lake City, Utah -  With March bringing huge snow totals to Kirkwood, the California resort is set to host stop two of The North Face Masters of Snowboarding, presented by PrimaLoft, March 29-April 1. Now in it's fifth season, the three-stop tour is the only open competition for big mountain snowboarders, with an overall prize purse of $50,000.

Originally planned for the first week of March, the event was pushed back a month to allow for more spring storms, a decision that paid off with over ten feet of snowfall in the past few weeks.

"We are excited to bring the tour here this year," remarked Kirkwood's Director of Marketing Kevin Cooper. "With a rough start and a mild mid-season it was hard to visualize the event actually taking place this year, but then there was March! We had nine feet in five days last week and we are track for 44 more inches here by end of day today, so the stoke level could not be higher!"

As an open event, The North Face Masters provides an opportunity for both established and up-and-coming riders to put together a winning run during two days of fierce competition. Saturday's finals are held on Kirkwood's famously steep venue, The Cirque, which will be broadcast live at thenorthfacemasters.com.

With the leading names in big mountain snowboarding competing this weekend, the quest for the title will be fierce. The women's field is stacked, with past champion Shannan Yates looking to repeat her win. Kyle Clancy and Jonathan Penfield are favorites from the deep and talented men's field.

"We are super excited to be back at Kirkwood for the second stop of the Masters, said Competition Director Patrick Brennan. "The recent snowfall, along with the forecasted snow in the next few days, have The Cirque in prime shape for some serious big mountain shredding."

The top male and female riders will receive one of the most coveted awards in big mountain snowboarding-the Katana Sword. Also, at each stop of the tour, The North Face honors a rider under the age of 21 with the Young Gun Award for innovative riding and promising talent.

    • From: media-75233
    • Description:

TNF Masters mens winners Crystal Mountain

Crystal Mountain, Washington — The North Face Masters of Snowboarding presented by Primaloft concluded at Crystal today with the mens final, wrapping up a thrilling week of big mountain snowboarding. Light snow, passing fog and gusty winds made for an extreme day of competition out in Crystals side-country.

After being delayed by lack of visibility yesterday afternoon following the womens final, the thirty-two male competitors were anxious for their turn on the massive Silver King this morning. Riders were blasted by snow and wind as they strapped in at the top of the 7,002-foot peak. With only a visual inspection to choose their line, stakes were high for the one run, winner-takes-all final.

Topping a stacked mens field today was Brandon Reid earning the highest score of the day, an 80.17. His run was very well put together, said Head Judge Tom Burt. Reid did a big committing air right off the top, hit a double cliff drop and stuck his landings cleaner than anyone else out there today.

The cutthroat battle for second and third came down a fraction of a point. Both Sammy Luebke in second (80.00) and Kyle Clancy in third (79.33) wowed the crowd and judging panel by utilizing the natural terrain to throw tricks into their run.

Luebke sent a huge backside 360 off the lower cliff, said Judge Julie Zell. His run had several airs off the top ridges and was very fluid.

Mikey Marohn and Ryland Bell, tying for fifth place, showed just how progressive big mountain snowboarding has become by throwing huge spins off the rocky cliff bands. Bells lofty frontside 540 was really fun to watch, said Zell.

Winning yesterdays womens final was Shannan Yates from Snowbird, Utah. Yates hit three airs with a confidence that impressed the judging panel, scoring 78.67. This is her fifth win of the infamous Katana Sword! Less than half of a point separated Maria DeBari and Maribeth Swetkoff-Kramer in second and third place, scoring 71.67 and 71.33.

$20,000 of prize money was awarded to the top finishers, as well the famous Katana Sword to Reid and Yates. The North Face Young Gun Award, given to the most impressive rider under the age of 25, went to Jerry Mark with a solid performance at the young age of nineteen. Forrest Burki, a Crystal local and crowd favorite for his entertaining antics and costumes won the Clif Bar Best Moment award for boldly straight lining a narrow chute.

A three-stop tour, The North Face Masters is the first competitive snowboarding series specifically tailored to fill a competition gap in the sport of Big Mountain Snowboarding. Next stop on the tour is Kirkwood, CA, March 1-4.

      Crystal Mountain Washington

Salt Lake City, Utah - With a 100-inch base and endless backcountry terrain ready to be ridden, Crystal Mountain in Washington state is set to host stop one of The North Face Masters of Snowboarding, presented by PrimaLoft, February 14-17. Now in its fifth season, the three-stop tour is the only open competition for big mountain snowboarders, with an overall prize purse of $50,000.

"We are excited to once again host The North Face Masters, said Crystal Mountain Marketing Manager Justus Hyatt. Unlike much of the country, we have great coverage at Crystal right now and have received almost 300 inches of snowfall this year. There's an unlimited amount of line choices on Northway Peak and the Silver King — the playgrounds of choice for The North Face Masters."

As an open event, The North Face Masters provides an opportunity for both established and up-and-coming riders to put together a winning run during two days of fierce competition. Finals are held on Crystals famous 7000 foot peak, Silver King.

Crystal Mountain is the hidden gem of the Northwest and has great terrain that lends itself to the big mountain riding style of the competition, Head Judge and snowboarding legend Tom Burt said. To do well, riders have to choose a line that is technical, ride the line fluidly, hit some airs with style, and have good control while riding.

The top male and female riders will receive one of the most coveted awards in big mountain snowboarding-the Katana Sword. Also, at each stop of the tour, The North Face honors a rider under the age of 21 with the Young Gun Award for innovative riding and promising talent.

The North Face Masters of Snowboarding is presented by PrimaLoft and supported by The North Face, Subaru of America, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., Bern, Lib Tech, Gnu, Mountain Sports International, Comcast Sportsnet, Snowboard Magazine, Clif Bar, Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort, Crystal Mountain and Kirkwood Mountain Resort.

  • Contest: Win A Dream Adventure Contest: Win A Dream Adventure With Clif Bar's Meet the Moment

    • From: media-75233
    • Description:

      May 16, 2011

Emeryville, California – Clif Bar today introduced Meet the Moment, a celebration of athletic adventures and the places they happen. Whether it’s action, adventure or the thrill of the chase, Clif Bar wants people to share how they Meet the Moment by uploading inspiring photos and stories at www.MeettheMoment.com.

Clif Bar will award three people who upload the most inspirational and creative Moments by July 31 an opportunity to pursue their dream adventure. Each winner will select the adventure of their choice (up to a maximum value of $12,000) - be it trekking the Amazon, chasing the Tour de France, riding a wave at J Bay, extreme boarding at Marmot or any other athletic adventure they’ve dreamed about.

To protect the places people play, Clif Bar also will donate $5 to one of five non-profits dedicated to protecting outdoor places each time someone creates and uploads their first Moment. To further support these conservation and preservation efforts, Clif Bar will double its contribution to each non-profit if people submit 10,000 Moments by July 31. All told, Clif Bar, the nation’s #1 energy bar, could contribute up to $125,000 to the five organizations.

The five non-profit beneficiaries that people can select from to direct a $5 Clif Bar donation on their behalf – Leave No Trace, International Mountain Biking Association, Surfrider Foundation, Access Fund and Winter Wildlands Alliance – were chosen for their focus on protecting the places where people Meet the Moment and their dedication to ensuring that outdoor spaces will be preserved for future generations to experience their own Moments.

Meet the Moment will culminate Oct. 1 with Clif Bar’s first National Day of Action, an inspirational day of volunteer activities making a positive and lasting impact on the outdoor places and spaces where memorable Moments occur every day.

      How to Post a Moment

Anyone is invited to upload a photo and share their Moment at www.MeettheMoment.com. The Moment can be described in “magnetic poetry style” by choosing from a bank of words that will be placed on top of the photo to create an individualized postcard.  People can also opt to add their own words to their postcard.

Once the postcard is complete, it can be posted to a photo gallery on www.MeettheMoment.com. The gallery is designed to serve as a visual community of people sharing athletic adventures and stories.

Once submitted, Moments will be plotted on four different “energy maps” that will track the location of like-minded individuals, the number of Moments dedicated by sport, the number of Moments assigned to each non-profit and the feelings Moments created. People also will be able to scroll over Moments in the Moment Gallery and on the energy maps to learn the story behind each postcard, with the goal of inspiring more Moments of outdoor adventure.

The TGR audience showed up in full force for the Los Angeles premiere of Deeper.  People from all over southern California were in attendance to party at Cinespace with Jeremy, Forrest, (and Jeremy?) and a ton of other shredheads.

This time around though, Philips-O’Neill added a twist: The Deeper Listening Experience.  Everyone at the venue was given a wireless transceiver and a pair of the sick new Stretch headphones, and the audio from the movie was pumped through this.

The sell-out crowd was definitely fired up for the movie – the timing couldn’t have been more perfect with Mammoth Mountain getting more than a foot of snow that week - and even more stoked when they realized that O’Neill was letting them keep the headphones!  While the winners of the Jones snowboard, boxes of Clif Bars, and North Face clothes were definitely excited, the entire crowd walked away winners.

Once the movie started, the silence of the venue was almost appropriate – this was the first time during the entire Deeper tour where we could actually hear the audience’s jaws drops at the sick lines Jeremy, Forrest and crew explore in the movie.  Oh, and the more than occasional sound of glasses clinking, hearts pumping and the occasional “oh s***”.

Great to see SoCal turnout for the premiere – we have a feeling we’ll be seeing some of the same faces to see it again in Encinitas on December 9.

    • Description:

The TGR crew descended on Brewies Cinema Pub, a Salt Lake institution, to premiere "Jeremy Jones' Deeper." With both the Contour HD bus and the Clif Bar bus parked outside showing the way the venue quickly filled up with Utah's finest.

The thing that blew everyone away about the show was how many core people were there. It was a veritable who's who of the local snow world from both sides of the shred stick. What was clear was that this was a gathering of core shredders and people in the know, all gathering in respect for a big mountain legend, Jeremy Jones.  The man of the night showed off his "Babies" for the local crowd whose Utah mountains he continually praised, and offered a ton of thanks for local rider Forrest Shearer, who plays a big part in the film, for helping him explore.  Protect Our Winters was on hand to raise awareness for climate change, and Jeremy had samples from his first batch of Jones Snowboards on hand to showcase their unique shapes and designs. And of course "Deeper" was shown in stunning Blu Ray on the giant screen at Brewvies.

Great prizes were on hand and given away to attendees. Several pairs of the new O'Neill/Philips headphones were raffled off, local company Voile came through and gave away some kits that are used to make splitboards just like the ones used in the film, and a contour HD POV cam as well as tons of tickets to the DEW Tour were given out.

Keep an eye out for a "Deeper" premiere near you.

      SF Deeper premiere

We held the premiere of Jeremy Jones' Deeper in San Francisco at a different venue than our usual ski film - and the city responded.  We have never seen a vibe that was both intimate and party-fying (pretty sure that is a real word) at the same time.  Jeremy and Forrest were at The Independent to dish out a ton of prizes from our sponsors, including a bunch of O'Neill / Philips headphones, swag from TNF, Clif Bar and Contour HD, and Jeremy handed a Jones snowboard over to a lucky winner.  And once the movie started, there was no doubt that the standing room only audience was captivated.  We are so fired up about the reception this movie has been getting!
