    Los Angeles, California — Eight of the world’s best action sport athletes, seven of which have competed in an X Games with thirty gold medals between them, are nominated for The 2012 ESPYs. The 20^th annual celebration of best moments from the year in sports will be televised live from the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE on Wednesday, July 11, at 9 p.m. EST on ESPN/ESPNHD. The 2012 ESPYs, hosted by Rob Riggle, release the nominees for Best Male Action Sport Athlete and Best Female Action Sport Athlete categories.

    BEST MALE ACTION SPORT ATHLETE NOMINEES

    Travis Rice, Snowboarding
    Named “Rider of the Year” by Snowboarder Magazine and “Adventurer of the Year” by National Geographic, Rice has filmed outstanding video parts year after year, producing jaw-dropping shots like his switch 540 over Chad’s Gap in Utah, a 120-foot backcountry gap jump.  

    Shaun White, Snowboarding and Skateboarding
    For 2011, White dominated in two sports where he earned his fifth consecutive SuperPipe gold at the Winter X Games in 2011, earning a perfect 100 on his final run. Six months later in Los Angeles, White won his first Vert gold since 2007 and his second Summer X Games gold medal in eight appearances.

    Kelly Slater, Surfing
    As the youngest person to win surfing’s top title (captured at the age of 20) and the oldest to do so (at the age of 39), Slater won his 11^th ASP World Tour title in 2011. For the 2012 surf season, Slater is currently in second place in the world rankings. 

    Ryan Villopoto, Motocross
    The 2011 motocross season was a five-way battle between Villopoto and four top riders. Villopoto consistently finished toward the top of his class each round, winning both the 2011 Motocross and the 2012 Supercross titles. In dominant fashion, Villopoto claimed his Supercross title by winning nine of the first fourteen events and clinching the crown with four races remaining.

    BEST FEMALE ACTION SPORT ATHLETE NOMINEES 
    

    Jamie Anderson, Snowboarding
    For both winter versions of X Games in Aspen, Colorado and Tignes, France in 2012, Anderson dominated women’s Snowboard Slopesyle, winning gold at both events. Anderson continued her winning streak by taking the title at four Burton U.S. Open Slopestyle competitions – giving her the overall Burton title for 2012. 
    

    Kelly Clark, Snowboarding
    Clark has dominated the past two years with a winning streak of sixteen major halfpipe events, gold medals two years in a row at the winter version of X Games (Aspen, Colorado & Tignes, France) and has won the Dew Tour Cup over two consecutive years.
    

    Kaya Turski, Skiing
    Turski defended her 2011 Ski Slopestyle gold at the winter version of X Games in 2012 for both Aspen, Colorado and Tignes, France. Turski has three-peated at both X Games events and won both Dew Tour Women’s Ski Slopestyle competitions and the overall Dew Tour Slopestyle crown for 2012.   

    Carissa Moore, Surfing
    As of July 2011, Moore has won six ASP Women's World Tour events, two ASP WQS 6-Star events and an unprecedented eleven NSSA Titles. For 2011, Moore was declared the ASP Women’s World Champion – the youngest winner of the title. Throughout the 2011 Tour, Moore won the Billabong Rio Pro, Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic and the Roxy Pro Gold Coast.

     
    “Being included as a nominee with such an amazing group of talented women is a big honor,” said Kelly Clark, the 2002 Winter Olympic gold medalist in Snowboard SuperPipe.

    Fans will determine the winners in all ESPY categories (except the Arthur Ashe Courage Award and other special awards) by voting online or on ESPN Mobile Web at ESPN.com/espys. Voting for Best Team will stay open during the live show on ESPN.com/espysand Twitter, where fans can vote for their team by using the hash tag #BestTeam accompanied by the team name.
    
    The ESPYs gather top celebrities from sports and entertainment to commemorate the past year in sports by recognizing major sports achievements, reliving unforgettable moments and saluting the leading performers and performances. The 2012 ESPYs will recognize both sport-specific achievements, such as “Best MLB Player” and “Best WNBA Player,” as well as best-in-sport winners, such as “Best Team” or “Best Female Athlete” that pit nominees from different sports against each other. The ESPYs honor ESPN’s commitment to The V Foundation for Cancer Research, a partnership launched with the late Jimmy Valvano at the inaugural ESPYs in 1993.

• News: Tailgate British Columbi News: Tailgate British Columbia Kicks Off In Revelstoke

    Revelstoke, BC — Within a matter of hours, a quiet dirt and snow-packed parking lot along the Trans-Canada Highway transformed into a tailgating village of RV's, trucks, sleds and tents complete with a beer garden. Over the course of five days, Flow Tailgate BC is hosting an event like no other in Revelstoke, British Columbia. An event where anyone who dreams of the backcountry can come experience a world of possibilities from sleds to heli to skinning. Capped at 150 spectators for the inaugural Flow Tailgate BC, the event brings people together to share backcountry experiences, educational opportunities and entertainment.
    
    “The Tailgate experience has been awesome so far! We drove in from Colorado and weren’t really sure what to expect. But everything has been a safe experience and really fun!” said Tailgater Tyson Lukasavige, “We’re gonna try to get out and do another avalanche course this afternoon and tomorrow. Last night I won a beacon at the man games and tonight they are going to giveaway some goggles so trying to win again. Then it’s skiing! It’s been a great experience overall.”
    
    This years inaugural event kicked off with a beer garden and music at the base camp location. Friday night, Eagle Pass Heliskiing hosted a party at their lodge with DJ’s, giveaways, fireworks, live music by the Folk Waisted and a snow garden complete with a fire pit. Locals, tailgaters, legends and pros gathered around to celebrate Canada’s best backcountry skiing and riding.
    
    Each day groups gathered with a guide to discuss the weather, avalanche dangers and evaluating snow safety. Local guide and Soul Rides owner Jeremy Hanke was taking snowmobilers out into the backcountry to gather snow knowledge by digging snow pits, discussing the snow pack and doing compression tests.

    Affordable and heli time rarely go hand in hand but at Flow Tailgate BC, skiers and riders were able to get discounted heli options with Eagle Pass Heliskiing and access massive amounts of terrain near Revelstoke.
    
    "We were stoked to heli during Tailgate because we knew we'd be riding with some serious shredders. Eagle Pass Heli really exceeded our expectations," said Tailgater Jessica Spanos, "Unlike more corporate ops, they weren't shy about taking us into truly steep terrain. And the A-stars were super sweet."
    
    We’re only midway through the inaugural event but it’s already coming along to be a successful event that brings together backcountry enthusiasts from around the world.

    World Freeride Festival was formed in 2008 by Mark Sullivan (founder of SNOWBOARD magazine, and former editor of Snowboarder Magazine.) Held annually on Thompson Pass (Valdez, AK), the event has grown more than 1500 percent in the past 5 years, making it the World’s largest backcountry event and one of the only participation based events in winter sports. The World Freeride Festival has grown to include events in British Columbia and Germany to spread the word of good times and backcountry safety.

    Jackson Hole Snowboarder Magazine has always done it real big. For the past seven years publisher Jesse Brown, art director Kristen Joy and advertising salesman Michael “Fudge” Bills have put together a high-quality glossy shred ’zine dedicated to showcasing Jackson Hole snowboard culture. To celebrate the annual publication, the three founders have always thrown an issue release party that brings together all the people in Jackson who love to ride. The result has been one of the rowdiest, most fun events of the winter in the Tetons. Past musical artists who have played the party include The Beatnuts, Brother Ali and even Justin Timberlake.

    On Saturday at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, Alabama rapper Yelawolf, who is signed to Eminem’s Shady Records, performed with DJ Craze for the magazine’s seventh issue release party. Underground rapper El Gant opened the party that may be the last one ever, as the magazine is set to shutter after this issue.

    “It's the last issue because I'm going to give New York City a try after this winter and I just can't run it from there,” publisher Jesse Brown said. “We are still trying to figure out what's going to happen to the snowboarder magazine, but don't know yet. We've worked real hard to make something different and can only be proud of what we've attempted and accomplished.”

    Although the party’s $50 ticket price was awfully steep, attendees were rewarded with an entertaining hour-long set by Yelawolf followed by a solo set by DJ Craze, who spun music into the night.

    “I snowboarded for the third time ever today,” Yelawolf said when he took the stage. “I took the tram right to the top of that mountain. I even hit a jump and a rainbow rail.”

    Yelawolf then performed his unique style of music that celebrates both southern rock and southern rap. After winning over the audience with his original tunes, he rapped over songs by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Johnny Cash and he even did a cover of Outkast’s “B.O.B (Bombs Over Baghdad).”
