Horgmo secured a winning score of 96.50 during his first run, which included a frontside noseblunt slide to fakie, a switch frontside double cork 10 and a switch backside 9. Canadian-born Mark Mcmorris, age 17, came in second with a 93.75 and 23-year-old Chas Guldemond of Reno Tahoe, Nev., placed third with an 88.50.

Charlotte Van Gils, age 24 from the Netherlands, came in second with an 84.50 and 26-year-old Cheryl Maas, also from the Netherlands, followed behind in third with a flat 70.00.

Breckenridge, Colorado – Canada’s Alexis Godbout claimed his first-ever Winter Dew Tour victory at today’s men’s freeski slopstyle final, closing out the four-day Nike 6.0 Open at Breckenridge Ski Resort. Prior to Godbout’s win, Ashley Battersby of Park City, Utah, was victorious in the women’s freeski slopestyle final, earning a top score of 83.00.

One of three athletes to never miss a Winter Dew Tour final, 20-year-old Godbout finally landed on top of the podium at the season-opening event. Godbout’s second run included a back 270, right rodeo 9 and a huge right kangaroo flip to earn a first-place score of 94.50. With a hometown crowd cheering him on, Breckenridge’s Bobby Brown, 19, placed second with a 92.25. Twenty-one-year-old Sammy Carlson of Tigard, Ore. followed behind in third with an 88.75.

“I really didn’t expect this that’s for sure. I’m stoked,” said Godbout. “I mean, I started the season in an amazing way and I couldn’t be happier.”

Twenty-two-year-old Battersby had a first place run in the women’s freeski slopestyle finals that included a disaster (when you air the first part of a rail and slide down the second) on the Nike 6.0 Burlington Double Set, a disaster to switch on the Toyota rail, a switch 540 and a 720. Breckenridge’s own Keri Herman, 28, placed second on her home mountain with a flat score of 83.00 and Canadian Jessica Warll, 22, rounded out the podium in third with an 80.00.

“It’s amazing to win the first stop of the Winter Dew Tour, and it feels so unreal,” said Battersby. “This is definitely one of my dreams and one of my goals that I’ve accomplished so I’m psyched.”

      December 18, 2010

Breckenridge, Colorado – Kicking off the first round of finals for the 2010-11 Winter Dew Tour season, Simon Dumont of Bethel, Maine took the top podium position in the men’s freeski superpipe final and Canada’s Dania Assaly claimed the honors in the women’s freeski superpipe finals.

After taking a fall at the end of his first run, Dumont, age 24, came out swinging in his second run by throwing out tricks including a double cork 1260 and stylish double flip to earn a first place score of 94.50. Canadian-born Justin Dorey, age 22, came in second with a 91.25 and France’s Kevin Rolland, age 21, followed behind in third with an 89.25.

“I was set up for a great first run and couldn’t have been more frustrated when I fell at the end,” said Dumont. “But I couldn’t be happier with how it worked out and the fact that I’m starting off the Winter Dew Tour season with a win. I’m looking forward to dominating the halfpipe scene all year and staying consistently on the podium”

In his first professional contest, 15-year-old Torin Yater-Wallace of Basalt, Colo., came in fifth overall with a score of 83.25. Yater-Wallace was the men’s freeski superpipe champion last season on the Gatorade Free Flow Tour, the official amateur series of the Winter Dew Tour, earning him a pre-qualified spot at the Nike 6.0 Open.

Again proving that the second run was clutch in today’s superpipe competitions, 23-year-old Assaly threw out a 900, back-to-back 540s and a 720 in the women’s freeski superpipe final, giving her a top score of 91.25. Switzerland’s Mirjam Jaeger, 28, placed second with an 83.00 and 27-year-old Jessica Cumming of Wilton, Conn. rounded out the podium in third with a 79.50.

Through the support of Paul Mitchell, the Nike 6.0 Open is featuring expanded women’s freeski superpipe and slopestyle competitions.

“I think Paul Mitchell did a great job by adding extra spots for women’s freeski,” said Assaly. “I’m beyond excited to have won today, and I can’t wait for Snowbasin.”

The four-day competition is the first of three stops on the 2010-11 Winter Dew Tour featuring men and women’s snowboarding and freeskiing disciplines. The Nike 6.0 Open will conclude tomorrow with the snowboard and freeski slopestyle finals for both men and women.

  • News: Vonn Wins, Regains Downh News: Vonn Wins, Regains Downhill Lead In Val d'Isere, France

    • From: media-75233
    • Description:

      December 18, 2010

Val d'Isere, France – Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) captured a stunning victory Saturday to regain the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup downhill standings lead as German Maria Riesch finished 24th. Teammate Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA) was 8th with five Americans finishing inside the top 30.

"I'm really psyched to have the red bib back. It means a lot," said Vonn, who won the 2009 downhill World Championship on the nearby Solaise slope in Val d'Isere. "I hope that I can keep skiing well and hang onto the bib until the end of the year. Downhill is my favorite event."

Vonn and Mancuso, debuting personally designed Spyder speed suits, kicked out of the start under bluebird skies and with single digit temperatures as the field's covered faces dropped into their tucks for the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup downhill.

Vonn started 20th, making an incredible save after nearly crashing on the turn just below the second jump. She kept her cool, arriving in the finish arena with a time of 1:51.42 - .68 ahead of the field. Switzerland's Nadja Kamer finished in second with teammate Lara Gut in a close third.

"I made a really big mistake on the top part of the course and I honestly thought I would not be able to win the race," explained Vonn. "I had been fast in the middle section of the course on the training runs and I knew if I skied well it might be possible to make up some time. I just tried to stay in my tuck as much as I could, be clean and ski aggressively. Thankfully I was able to make the time up and come away with the win."

Vonn made a similarly athletic recovery during the second downhill of the season in Lake Louise. She credited the save, which ultimately landed her second, to her rigorous off season work ethic and agility training.

Saturday's result marked Vonn's 35th World Cup win, the most of any American, as she regained the downhill standings lead. She also owns World Cup downhill wins from 1995 and '96, placing her in the same category as women's greats  Annemarie Moser-Proell of Austria and Marie-Therese Nadig of Switzerland, who also have three World Cup downhill victories in Val d'Isere. In addition to the '09 World Championship, Vonn is also the reigning super combined champion in Val d'Isere.

"I love Val d'Isere, I've always had a good feeling here. It's great to have another victory," added Vonn.

After a few deep breaths in the gate, Mancuso charged the course crossing the line in eighth after Friday's super G was canceled when three feet of snow fell over the French resort. This was her fifth consecutive World Cup top 10.

"They did a good job pushing out all the snow, but it was pretty soft still. I just a lost a little time in the middle but it was another solid downhill finish," said Mancuso. "Skiing's going well, I definitely want to go a little faster but it's a good solid finish."

Americans Leanne Smith (Conway, NH) in 18th, Laurenne Ross (Klamath Falls, OR) in 25th and Alice McKennis in 30th (Glenwood Springs, CO) all followed suit, breaking inside the top 30 to score World Cup downhill points.

"It was very tight, so a small mistake could have been 10 spots in the rankings," said Head Coach Alex Hoedlmoser. "We're pretty happy with it, but we expect a lot out of that group. We're hoping that they were going to be more around the top 10, top 15, but the groups improving. I'm sure we're going to get there."

The women will be back in the start gate Sunday in Val d'Isere for a super combined. The race will stream live on www.UniversalSports.com beginning at 3:45 a.m. ET.

      Here's Lindsey's post race interview:

After such a great Saturday, Jackson Hole took a Mt Baldy-esque 180 on us, replacing the forecasted 5-10" of snow with fog and heavy snow. When the 6 am report recorded only 2" of new snow, I slept an extra four hours and cooked myself bacon and eggs before making my way to the mountain. Aimlessly sliding around all afternoon was nonetheless tons of fun and without further adieu I present Volume 1 of The Whiteout Sessions. Skiing
