      Perisher Snowboarder Australia

Australia's Perisher resort has announced it will open Saturday, June 2, thanks to the heavy early snowfalls, low temperatures and continued snow-making.

One week ahead of the official opening; Perisher plans to open Front Valley for skiing and snowboarding, making it the first Australian resort to kick off the 2012 winter season.

Following the success of last year's pre-season opening, all the proceeds from the ticket sales from the 2nd and 3rd of June will be donated to the local community, with the aim of smashing the $20,000 raised for various charities in 2011. In 2011, Perisher made the donations after its Facebook fans voted where they would like to see the money go.

"We are really excited for a great 2012 winter season and we can't wait to share all of the improvements we've made to the resort with our guests. We're also really happy to be supporting the local community by, once again, donating Saturday and Sunday's ticket proceeds" says Perisher's CEO Peter Brulisauer.

This snow report from Perisher, Australia says Perisher received 27cm (10.5 in) overnight and looks like some good powder. Nothing epic, but it should spice up the groomers (not that the day glo outerwear doesn't spice it up enough).

Thredbo, Australia has the same story as Perisher. New snow, they recorded 60cm (23 in.) in 48 hours. This video has some better riding showcasing one snowboarder takin a few sidehits and logging some face shots.

Treble Cone, New Zealand is lookin awesome. This Go Pro edit pretty much says it all, powder and cliff drops for days!

This little edit from Las Lenas, Argentina gives a little insight into daily operations and what goes on at the mountain during a typical snow day. People skiing and riding in near white out conditions mixed in with shots of the resort buildings and lifties workin the chairs. Argentina looks like a good spot to go right now.

Man they know how to rock in Chapelco, Argentina. The video is a short edit of groomer groomer and chairlift riding from July 2nd, their opening day.

This video from La Parva, Chile really makes me feel like going south of the border. They've got some fun angles and good looking snow.

  • News: Australia's Perisher Val News: Australia's Perisher Valley To Kick Start Southern Hemisphere Ski Season Friday

    • From: media-75233

      From ABC News Australia:

Perisher will open one ski run on its front valley on Friday and Saturday.

That is three weeks ahead of the official start to the ski season on June 10.

Perisher's Neil Thew says man-made snow has boosted the 20 centimetres of natural snow which fell last week.

"We've had about 40 to 50 snow-making guns blasting away since last Tuesday and that's produced about another 30,000 cubic metres of man-made snow," he said.

"So there is a good cover on front valley and we thought let's go, let's do it.

"It's the earliest that I know of skiing in Australia. It is very exciting."

Mr Thew says the weather is great for skiing.

"We've had very, very cold overnight temperatures and it's been getting up to about 8 or 9 degrees," he said.

"So it certainly won't be uncomfortable for skiers and boarders.

"Overnight when it gets to sub-zero we can make more snow and top up the runs.

"And there's another front coming through early next week, so hopefully that brings us some more snow..."

"...We're just opening tomorrow and Saturday. And then we'll see what this front does and we might open again next weekend."

He says they are donating this weekend's lift ticket proceeds to charity.

"We're going to be charging $30 for an adult, $15 for children per day and all the money that we raise through the lift ticket sales will go to charity," he said.
