Bomb Snow TV Goes to AK: Episo Bomb Snow TV Goes to AK: Episode 4 Shallower, Closer, Shorter
- From: TetonGravityResearch
-
Description:
Words: The Bomb Snow
After a rowdy eviction party, we hit the road early on April 1st with Alaska segments from old MSP and TGR movies burned in our brains. With 2500 miles in front of us, we knew we were in for a long ride, but the prospects of skiing steep blower spines kept our spirits high. Loaded with five snowmobiles on an old rusty trailer, we were clueless as to the hardships that would be brought on by the rough roads of Northern Alberta and the Yukon.
Bomb Snow TV Episode 4, the last of the season produced by the Bridger Brigade, is a brief account of our adventures to Alaska. From Montana, to Valdez, to Haines, and back to Montana, our journey was filled with highlights and disasters. We have gained a new understanding and appreciation for the Alaskan skiing journey. After 7 days and 6 nights in the truck, 4 blown trailer tires, and 2 broken trailer arms, our hardships were outweighed by a plane drop and an unreal 4 days spent on a glacier in Haines.
Needless to say, the Alaskan experience was humbling. The sick terrain and incredible challenges have revamped our ambition toward skiing. With new determination and new goals, nothing will stop us from spending our Spring's in Alaska.

News: Eric Beauchemin Wins Ina News: Eric Beauchemin Wins Inaugural Snowboard Streetstyle
- From: TetonGravityResearch
-
Description:
The Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships has broken ground on many levels this week in Breckenridge, Colorado. From hosting a film night in the town to putting on a Big Air competition under bright lights in front of a giant crowd at night, but what is quite possibly the most innovative addition to the lineup is the new Snowboard Streetstyle event hosted in the town at night.
Complete with a trailer truck drop-in, a Toyota van to jib on and off of and multiple dumpsters to grind, wallrides to hit, cement street barriers to slide and kickers to launch off around each obstacle – the new Snowboarding Streetstyle event offered a new style of riding that represents true riding in the streets.
The streetstyle event format consisted of a 30-minute organized jam with thirteen riders taking turns on the unique course being judged on their overall impression.
Eric Beauchemin ultimately scored the highest from the thirteen-man jam with tricks like a half cab 360 onto the down barrier, back 270 to 270 out on the barrier as well as a variety of grinds across the long dumpester at the end of the course.
“I’ve never done anything like this, features in the streets of Breckenridge… it was fun. My favorite feature was the wallride,” said Beauchemin still taking in his win.
If crowd turnout and overall atmosphere are any indicator of an events success, this new streetstyle discipline will be remembered and return to the Dew Tour as a flagship competition for fun and creativity!

Into The Mind Of Dave Mossop: Into The Mind Of Dave Mossop: Heel Pieces
- From: ryandunfee
-
Description:

“Heel Pieces” is a column by Ryan Dunfee published twice a month on TetonGravity.com. In each entry, Dunfee tackles one of the top ski news stories of the moment in an effort to provide insight behind the hype. This week, Dunfee caught up with Sherpas Cinema director Dave Mossop to learn more about the production company's much anticipated action sports film “Into The Mind.”
Into The Mind Of Dave Mossop: Heel PiecesThe skiing internet was awash last week with fans and industry figures alike all trying to outdo each-other in stating their enthusiasm for the Sherpas Cinema trailer for "Into The Mind" that features Imagineer-level visual trickery, cinematography that would make the producers of "Planet Earth" cough up a lung, and explosive action shots set to a soundtrack of electronic and tribal beats. While the combined effect sent most into a social media sharing hysteria with captions written in caps lock, this author saw only two filmmaking phenomena historically doomed to fail: getting action sports athletes (namely skiers) to reveal anything remotely insightful from their "Minds," and casting multiple sports, in this case skiing, snowboarding, surfing, and white-water kayaking, in the same film. I took Sherpas director Dave Mossop to task on how exactly he hopes to transcend boundaries a second time with "Into The Mind."
Ryan Dunfee: It’s a historical fact that no skier in history since Ernest Hemingway has ever said anything remotely insightful. By going “Into The Mind(s)” of skiers, what do you hope to reveal to the world? That they are all stoked, love skiing with friends, and feel they need to work hard to get shots?
Sherpas Cinema director Dave Mossop: Any real mountain person knows that skiing and snowboarding isn’t always stoke and fun with your friends. It’s about challenge, perseverance, freezing weather, shit conditions, and a lifetime of enduring injuries, and even death. Yes, skiing is fun, extremely fun, but it also comes with all of humanity’s many emotions. We want to show that living a ski or snowboarding lifestyle is one of the greatest lives on Earth, and that all these emotions play a role in taking you to your ultimate potential.
RD: Can you explain, mechanically, how you guys achieved those motion sickness-inducing rolling circle shots?
DM: Stick, camera, tape. This is all you need. Tape camera to one end, pivot stick on other end.
RD: You highlight a diverse selection of athletes skiing, surfing, snowboarding, and kayaking. Traditionally, cross-sport movies have never performed very well. How do you plan on breaking the mold this time around?
DM: We'll be trying to not make it lame.RD: What can viewers who’ve seen All.I.Can expect to be the same or different, stylistically or otherwise, this time around?
DM: We learned a lot during the making of All.I.Can., and we want to bring that knowledge to the table. We can’t stop being who we are, so you’ll see our personalities come through as always, but we hope to evolve to a higher level of storytelling. ITM will take a slice from the avalanche safety message of The Fine Line and the environmental consciousness of All.I.Can, but those aren’t what this is about. This will be new.
RD: What are you guys doing in the filming, interviewing, etc. that is going to do a better job of getting to some deeper emotional or psychological understandings that other filmmakers have been able to accomplish before? Are there other films, inside of skiing or outside, that influenced the approach to Inside The Mind?
DM: Well, we’ll probably just avoid interviews entirely. Actions speak louder than words.
Our work is, of course, inspired and heavily influenced by dozens of incredible artists. Films that pop to mind include: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Being John Malcovich, Inception, Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Baraka, Dark Side of The Lens, Nostalgia, There Will Be Blood, Stranger Than Paradise, Jacob’s Ladder. And great directors like Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze, Tarantino, Ron Fricke, Stanley Kubrick, Andrei Tarkovsky, Chris Cunningham, Dziga Vertov, Wim Wenders, Wes Anderson, The Cohen Bros, etc.

Tempting Fear Trailer - Salomo Tempting Fear Trailer - Salomon Freeski TV
- From: salomonfreeski
-
Description:
Andreas Fransson has been called the boldest extreme skier in a generation. Over the past three years he's logged first descents in a half-dozen countries, battled back to life from an accident that nearly killed him, and become the most talked about skier in the epicenter of all things extreme - Chamonix, France.
What makes Andreas most intriguing, however, are his thoughtful musings on meaning from a life on the edge - a willingness to enter mental spaces that few have ever experienced.
In Tempting Fear, Sweden's soft-spoken Adventurer of the Year explores a place in which fear overwhelms all emotions, playing both friend and enemy in a pas de deux where death lies just one misstep away.

Choose Your Own Adventure by P Choose Your Own Adventure by Powderwhore Productions
- From: powderwhores
-
Description:
Powderwhore Productions, a backcountry ski film company based in Utah, is proud to announce its eighth annual ski movie, called “Choose Your Adventure.” The film will premiere at Brewvies in Salt Lake City on September 26th 2012. Followed by a 50 city TOUR through ski towns throughout North America.
This movie is such a mixed bag of characters, exotic locations and action that we wanted to get that point across with the title. You really can’t guess what’s coming next in this film, like the Choose Your Own Adventure book series we enjoyed growing up. We’re exploring an abandoned mining town in the Arctic, dropping cliffs with Hugo Harrison in British Columbia, plunging into the Antarctic Sea in speedos, blasting through deep powder, catching up with crusty locals in the Wasatch and more.
Our interest lies in finding people with real stories and ski objectives. We wanted to tag along and capture their actions and motivation for heading into the mountains, creating more of an authentic experience. We traveled light and moved fast to avoid interfering with the actual adventures as they unfolded.Despite the underwhelming winter of 2011-12, in which snowfall reached near record lows and unstable avalanche conditions, the Powderwhores were able to make the most of the conditions at home and abroad, with trips to Cerro Castillo, Chile; La Grave, France; the Antarctic Peninsula; Svalbard, Norway; Mount Foraker, Alaska; British Columbia, Canada, and the Wasatch Mountains in Utah.
The film features an array of characters from salty backcountry veterans to some of the top skiers and snowboarders, including Chris Davenport, Jake Sakson, Andrew McLean, Seth Wescott, Dylan Freed, Noah Howell, Matt Reardon, Drew Stoecklein, Forrest Coots, Ian Provo, Neil Provo, Chuck Mumford, Darrell Finlayson, Bob Athey, PY Leblanc, Jason Thompson,Todd Stuart and Hugo Harrison.
In the end, this is a feature-length ski film that celebrates exotic locations, wild adventures, and the dedicated personalities writing their own stories in snow.

Wonder. Is it a place or a state of mind?
Are there places on the planet where wonder concentrates? Where it gathers, amasses, pools, comes in the night by the dumpload to bury yesterday's tracks? Or is it just a state of mind, a way of looking, a filter through which you see the world, wherever you may be?
This season, we explore Whistler Blackcomb with a 7-episode video series taking us through the eyes of Whistler's lore-keepers, the time-lapse artists and the athletes, the kids who grew up here, and the mechanics who keep the place running, in an effort to find out where wonder strikes.
These stories are pinned to the new Wonderground microsite - http://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/wonder to share and to rediscover. These are the places where wonder has struck. Share your secrets. Find your way. Claim your place.
